Context
Every year, housing associations need to communicate rent reviews to thousands of residents. These communications often involve explaining rent increases, payment changes, support options and regulatory requirements while ensuring information remains clear, consistent and accessible.
The Challenge
Raven Housing Trust wanted a better way to explain annual rent reviews and help residents understand what actions, if any, they needed to take. The communication needed to address multiple payment methods, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and Direct Debit arrangements, while also providing transparency around why rent changes occur and how rental income supports housing services.
Our Approach
We developed a recurring annual video communication programme that explains rent review changes in a clear, resident-focused format.
Each year’s video guides residents through the updated rent position, explains what actions may be required depending on their circumstances and outlines where they can access additional support if needed.
The content also provides important context around government rent-setting guidance and demonstrates how rental income is invested back into maintaining homes, services and communities.
Commercial Value
The videos provide Raven Housing Trust with a scalable communication tool that helps improve understanding, reduce confusion and deliver consistent messaging across a large resident base.
By making complex information easier to understand, the content supports resident engagement while reducing reliance on written communications alone. The annual approach also creates an efficient framework that can be updated and reused year after year, ensuring residents receive timely and accessible information whenever rent reviews take place.
